Dave Venn was born, raised and received his musical education in St. Louis.
Piano lessons began at age 7, followed by saxophone and clarinet lessons in high
school, and formal training in clarinet at the St. Louis Institute of Music.
While still in college Dave began his professional music career as a tenor saxophonist,
performing with the Jazz Central group and various other local bands.
Jazz in St. Louis in the 1960s was flourishing - Gaslight Square, The Playboy
Club, DeBaliviere area, etc... However, there were more opportunities for pianists
than saxophonists; thus began the piano career.
Dave has accompanied many nationally-renowned singers and instrumentalists who have
performed in St. Louis. He is in demand both as a soloist and in larger ensembles,
regularly appearing at the top clubs, hotels, concerts, and other venues throughout
the area. The Riverfront Times acknowledged this in naming Dave "Best Local
Pianist/Keyboardist." The solid success, wide appeal, and distinction he enjoys
only serve to underscore his on-going musical growth and freshness.
Dave Venn lives with his wife in University City, Missouri and is the father of
ESPN sports
writer David Venn.
